Frequently asked questions

How many will I need for my room?

This depends on the size of your room and a wide variety of other factors.

If you are working in a tiny cupboard space you may just need a couple. If you have a huge live room that you want to be acoustically dead you will need considerably more.

For an average mix/listening room, as a rough guide, we recommend starting with 4 panels and treating the main reflection points in the room. You can then measure the room response and add/take away panels as necessary. For a balanced sound, you should look to cover around 40-60% of the blank wall space.

We discuss this topic at length in our advice article here

Or feel free to contact us and we'd be happy to advise on your setup :)

Are they really eco-friendly?

Yes, the panels are made from recycled post-consumer plastic (PET), using an advanced process which creates a densely aerated, highly absorbent material.

This type of PET can be recycled again after use, so there's no need to destroy the planet just to get a good room sound.

Can they be ceiling mounted?

Yes, absolutely. Since the panels are very light, they are safe and easy to ceiling mount. It's not always required, but some rooms really benefit from treatment of the ceiling.

If using Command™ strips or nano-tape to stick the panels to the ceiling, we usually recommend that you double the amount compared to wall hanging. Approximately 8 medium/large command strips is a good place to start for ceiling mounts.

Will these deal with bass response problems? Do I need separate bass traps?

AudioSilk panels are a broadband absorber, and deal effectively with a wide range of frequencies. High grade materials are used so that they are considerably more effective than similarly priced products of the same thickness.

Like any broadband panel, they become less effective at the lowest frequencies. If there is a significant bass problem in your room, then we recommend dealing with it using separate bass traps alongside our panels.

Will these soundproof my room, and stop the neighbours complaining?

This is a common misconception about the purpose of acoustic panels, foams, etc.

The panels are primarily designed for acoustic treatment (making the sound inside the room clear and accurate). Not so much for soundproofing (blocking the sound travelling between rooms), which is a separate issue.

No panel on its own will be able to soundproof a room, despite what some manufacturers may claim. Properly soundproofing a room will generally involve full-on and expensive structural modfications, e.g. installation of double walls, floating floors, vinyl mass, etc.

The panels will provide a small amount of deadening of sound between rooms, especially for higher frequencies, so they may help a little, to make the sound less annoying to overhear. But they will not block sound completely.

Do you have a version of the panel with no logo on it?

The panels are fully reversible, so you can decide when mounting whether to display the AudioSilk logo, or go for a simpler look with no logo.

Can the panels be cut to custom sizes?

Yes. The panels can be cut easily using a craft knife or similar tool. This means that you can treat awkwardly sized/shaped parts of the room with no loss of performance.

Are the panels safe to handle?

Yes completely, there is no protective gear required, unlike when installing some sound insulation products (e.g. rockwool).

AudioSilk panels are made entirely from recycled PET. The same material that a plastic drink bottle is made from. So they can be handled easily and safely with no gloves or mask.

Are they fire rated?

Yes, AudioSilk Panels are fire rated class B.

OUR MISSION

Professional results, for project studios

  • Solving a widespread problem

Too many people invest in high quality studio monitors, interfaces and other equipment, while the space around them remains neglected. We want to fix that.

AudioSilk panels help you eliminate room sound and massively improve clarity, separation, stereo field and bass response. Even with budget monitors, and a small spend on AudioSilk acoustic treatment, professional results are now possible.

  • Designed for the modern day musician

Sure, a £1000/day commercial studio would be nice, but not all of us are in our dream space just yet. We're trying to get the best results we can in awkward rooms, shared or rented accommodation, fitting around existing furniture (and people!).

AudioSilk panels are light, simple to mount, and can be removed easily leaving no marks. They also look amazing so can fit in with your decor rather than making the space offputting.
